Homeroom Partners

PiE and the DTS school administration created a Homeroom Partners Program at DTS in 2010. The program was traditionally held for the elementary grades (PreK through 5th Grade) and in 2021 expanded to include one representative for each middle school grade. The program helps create a positive school environment and strengthen the partnership between home and school. The Homeroom Partner at all levels is a liaison between PiE and other DTS parents, keeping them informed of various PiE events, meetings, and volunteer opportunities.

The purpose of Homeroom Partners Program at the elementary level is to relay PiE news and Events, and also to assist classroom teachers with various duties; such as maintaining a class online social page, coordinating chaperones for trips, planning celebrations and/or organizing volunteers and classroom needs for special classroom events. The amount of involvement can vary by teacher needs. Several partners have used websites for information sharing but weekly/bi -weekly emails are also beneficial. Most HR Partners also typically organize a group gift for the holidays, Teacher Appreciation Week, or the end of the school year.

For the middle school representative, the model is a bit different. Instead of a homeroom model, the middle school representatives have a larger (grade level) contact list, with the main goal to increase communication and relay news of PiE meetings, events, and volunteer opportunities to families. The middle school representatives do not typically organize individual classroom parties or events, typically do not need to contact homeroom teachers, and do not maintain an online social page.
